Gyrotonic® - Ashland, Oregon

Gyrotonic® is a method derived from yoga, ballet, swimming and gymnastics that increases coordination, flexibility and strength. Like Pilates, it works the entire musculature system with extra emphasis on the core of the body.

Like Pilates, Gyrotonic® is a mind/body exercise method that uses breath as a source of energy to initiate movement. Though both Pilates & Gyrotonic® increase strength and range of motion simultaneously, Pilates focuses more on strength and stability, and Gyrotonic® more on range of motion.
Pilates movements are more linear and finite to help people draw energy into their core and focus on their alignment. Gyrotonic® movements are more spherical and fluid to help the body assimilate more sophisticated pathways of movement.
Another main difference is Gyrotonic’s® focus on the extremities. Range of motion in hands and feet make up a substantial part of the exercise system. Gyrotonic® has been extremely beneficial in helping people with arthritis. As we age, the collagen in our ligaments and joints wears down. The Gyrotonic® system counters that by gently stretching the collagen and supplying it with additional blood and nutrition.
The Gyrotonic® Tower is built around the body in order to create a smooth but continuous resistance throughout the body’s entire range of motion in every direction.
We offer private sessions on the Gyrotonic® tower and group sessions on the mat.
